material programming project

This is the homepage for the Material Programming Project. We are developing knit as a programmable material, through software that provides a shared infrastructure for industrial knitting.

We are working with and on new open-source programming tools for the development of knitted textiles. We’re interested in working with a range of industrial machines, malleable textile design software, and researchers and practicioners across industry and academia.

In Autumn 2026, we will be developing a new research tool, Auttoman, to investigate structural knits for interior design. We will be continuing to run student-facing workshops, and convene the Knit Tech Reading Group.

If any of the above sounds interesting to you, please get in touch.
