auttoman

We are working on a new tool that demonstrates the potential of Knitout-based software to create structural knits. The tool uses a technique called Ottoman, where stitches from lower down in a sample are lifted up the bed and hooked into later rows, creating structures with variable weight, volume, and tensile properties. We are using this tool to prototype a series of structural samples for furniture.

At present, Auttoman is developed within the Patchwork system – we are planning to release it as a standalone tool this Autumn, after further testing and refinement. We’re happy to share the code with collaborators, so if you are a Kniterate user and would like to test it, please get in touch.
